The Achensee Region
With your digital AchenseeCard – the guest card you receive directly from Haus Karoline – you can enjoy free travel on the regional bus network and take advantage of numerous discounts throughout the region.
In winter, the card also serves as your trail pass for the otherwise fee-based cross-country skiing tracks in the Karwendel valleys near Pertisau.
From May to October, you can also purchase the Achensee Holiday Card, which gives you unlimited access to many of the region’s top attractions – either when booking your stay or anytime during your visit with us.

Winter starts right at our doorstep.
The ski bus stop is located directly in front of Haus Karoline, taking you to the Christlum ski area in just a few minutes. Prefer walking? The base station is only a five-minute walk away.
The cross-country ski trails begin almost at the house, and winter hiking, tobogganing, and ski touring routes are all nearby.
A perfect base for your winter holiday in the Tyrolean Alps!

The Lake & The Mountains
It is the spectacular natural realm which makes the area around Achensee so special. The lake is surrounded by two mountain ranges - on one side the Karwendel mountains rise up with their rugged rocky peaks, while on the other side chamois and Golden Eagles greet you from the summits of the Rofan mountains. This gem of a place captivates with its gentle Alpine pastures, as much as it does with its precipitous rocky cliff faces. This means that Achensee is the perfect starting point for hikes, mountain bike tours and climbing adventures.
As the biggest lake in Tirol, Achensee is also a refuge for lots of sailors, surfers and kite-surfers. In summer they gather with sun-worshippers, who are keen to take a dip and not only enjoy the breath-taking views in the region's bathing lakes, but also the pure water in Achensee.
More than 500 kilometres of signposted hiking trails, 250 kilometres cycle routes and 183 kilometres signposted running routes are available for you in Achensee. The outdoor offer is completed with several via ferratas and also by E-Bikes, which can be hired and recharged in all towns. There are also several opportunities to play tennis in the region, and to have a lovely experience riding on the back of a horse, or in a horse-drawn carriage.
In summer, you can book a guided mountain hike directly at Haus Karoline.
Together, we’ll plan a beautiful and varied tour tailored specifically to you and/or your family.
Along the way, you'll receive practical tips for mountain hiking and fascinating insights into the alpine landscape – ideal for anyone who wants to experience the mountains more deeply and personally.

Cycling and mountain biking
The “more gentle” cycle trails take you along the banks of the lake to one or another romantically located valley, or to well-known Alpine pastures, and these are also easy to get to from the villages.
The entire region is following the e-bike trend. Electric bikes can be hired from different hire stations along Achensee.
Challenging and action-packed mountain bike routes in all difficulty levels can be found in all the villages in the holiday region. These officially approved routes proceed for the most part across forest and agricultural roads, away from any traffic. There are 35 kilometres of trails for riders new to mountain biking, 185 kilometres of trails for mixed abilities, and 30 kilometres to challenge even hardcore riders. Singletrack mountain biking is best experienced on Plumsjoch and Lamsenjoch, the area’s two well-maintained 4.3km trails through varied terrain, offering demanding downhills and creating memories that will stay with you forever.

Active Winter Holidays
The ski areas at Lake Achensee are small-scale, yet full of variety, and perfect for families who share the wide slopes with carving fans and snowboarders. The Christlum lifts in Achenkirch, the Rofan cable car in Maurach, the Karwendel cable car in Pertisau and the lifts in Steinberg and Wiesing offer 30 lifts to access 53 kilometres of slopes on altitudes up to 1900 metres.
The six ski schools in the region offer courses for every ability level - from private lessons to weekly courses. Even tiny tots can have lots of fun learning to ski at one of our local ski schools.
Cross country skiing
The topography of the terrain surrounding Lake Achensee - from gently undulating landscapes along the lakeshore to challenging routes in the Karwendel valleys - and the excellent infrastructure offering separate tracks for classic cross-country skiers and skaters ensures skiing fun at the highest level.

Ski mountaineering
Completely alone, surrounded by the tranquility of the wintry mountain scape, you ascend on skis and discover places which you would otherwise only be able to enjoy in summer. Ski tours open up a totally different perspective of the winter scenery in the Achensee region. The natural form of exercise in complete peace and quiet is a key element to this sport, as are the endless deep snow slopes.
The Rofan and Karwendel mountains provide numerous opportunities for ski tours - from short and easy to demanding, steep climbs. The accessibility to the ski areas in the region is a big bonus.

Winter hiking with snowshoes
With every step the fresh snow crunches under your feet and thousands of ice crystals glisten in the cold winter air. There is hardly a better way to experience the magic of winter at Lake Achensee than winter hiking. The enchanting landscape around the lake boasts more than 150 kilometres of the loveliest winter hiking paths which invite you to discover the natural beauty of Tirol 'step by step' and in complete tranquility.
Tobogganing
You're very welcome to borrow our Haus Karoline toboggans for a fun winter afternoon – whether it's a peaceful walk along the snowy hiking trails with the kids or an exciting ride down the Christlum toboggan run after ski school.
